We had a lovely stay in this beautifully presented pub / restaurant and hotel.
A lovely find in a very rural part of the country. There’s a great bar and restaurant looking out over the countryside (we saw deer and hot air balloons while we were having dinner).
The room was quite small but beautifully presented with everything we needed (although the fresh milk didn’t last long in the heatwave!) and the home-made biscuits were delicious.
There’s plenty of parking too ????

Lovely staff, we enjoyed our stay.
Good location, on a busy road but quiet at night. Lovely views over towards the South Downs. Great garden with glass terrace which could be closed if required. Great breakfast.
Bathrooms are a bit tired.

Great staff, Imogene welcomed us and has a wonderful team working with her. Amazing food for dinner and the breakfast was fantastic. The room was very comfortable.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms comfortable and clean with everything needed for a short stay. Food was very good in terms of quality and choice. Lovely setting overlooking beautiful countryside with outdoor seating in the bar/restaurant area
We liked everything about it. Unfortunately the water pressure was not good and the showers were impacted. When mentioned though the staff response was excellent and we were offered a discount on our stay.

Lovely clean accommodation l, friendly and helpful staff. Food was very good, especially after the breakfast menu was revised.
Not emough shelves in the bathroom to store anything.

Lovely spot but room for improvement
Lovely quiet location
The shower didn’t work properly, it only produced a trickle of water. When I mentioned it to the staff on duty I was informed that there were ‘ongoing issues’. In other words this had been going on for a while. This should either have been sorted out sooner or else guests ought to have been told about this when booking a room.

A pleasant base: we were there for five nights.
Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Easy distance by car to attractive country and historic buildings.
Staff a bit slow to take orders for cooked breakfast. Absence of storage/hanging space in bedroom. No open country immediately to hand for walking., nor situated in an old village or town.

Amazing stay at a lovely place
We stayed in room 7 and it was lovely. A big room, with a very comfortable bed (the most comfortable bed we've slept in outside of our own), a shower and toilet room with the sink in the bedroom and a patio. It was the perfect weather for sitting on the patio, so we spent a lot of time out there and it was very comfortable. The little touches were appreciated, like a coffee machine, fresh milk and homemade cookies.
The water pressure in the shower was terrible a lot of the time - but sometimes it was ok!

Welcoming and helpful staff, good food and drink, and dining overlooking a great view onto the downs. The room was well equipped.
A little more space (like a small table) to put stuff on (eg books, personal belongings, chargers etc.). Bed high quality but the mattress over-firm. More reliable water supply in the mornings (kept going on and off). These are mostly minor faults - not a big deal, but I hope helpful feedback.

A great place to stay!
We had a comfortable room with excellent facilities. It was clean and welcoming.
We were visiting family who had already organised a meal out with us otherwise we would have been very happy to eat at the Welldiggers. On our return in the evening we were able to enjoy a complimentary drink at the bar.
Through absolutely no fault of their own there was little or no water in the morning so we were unable to shower. Apparently the water board had shut off the water ahead of schedule which caused the Welldiggers staff no end of problems.
The manager gave us a full refund on our bill which was incredibly generous.
I would recommend a stay at the Welldiggers to anyone! Thankyou for your kindness????

We verbleven in een compacte maar comfortabele kamer, boven het restaurant. De kamer - aan de achterzijde van het pand - was heerlijk rustig. Het bed was comfortabel en de badkamer was klein maar prima. Ook het restaurant is gezellig en het eten is er goed. Verder hadden we onze toilettas laten liggen. Stom natuurlijk, maar het is door de accommodatie snel opgepakt en opgestuurd. Topservice!
's Avonds kwam er etenslucht van de restaurantkeuken de hotelkamer binnen via het raam. Dat was na sluiting van het restaurant ook weer over.

A wonderful couple of days which we look forward to repeating in the near future.
The welcome from the staff and their service was outstanding. Cheerful, polite, attentive without being overbearing, from house staff to restaurant staff, they made us feel welcome and valued. A superb team. No wonder it is always so booked up! We have been in the waiting queue for a long time and were not disappointed with our stay.
We wish we could have stayed longer! Just for the sake of being picky, perhaps a more generous supply of breakfast tea and coffee in the room would have been welcome. That said, we were given more when we asked!

Room was exceptionally noisy. It was a warm night and having the window open lead to little sleep, with a room overlooking the road. Some plumbing issues in our room also.
Food served at supper was not hot and the same at breakfast.
I have been here several times for supper and it was great.
This visit was very disappointing for the money spent.

Great place to stay
Easy to find, plenty of off-road parking. Not a busy road at night. Accommodation was well spec’d with some nice touches such as radio already playing calm music & pillow spray. Restaurant was excellent for both dinner & breakfast. Staff were friendly & helpful
View from room was half hidden by roof top, but other rooms I believe have uninterrupted view. I could also hear a vent running but this stopped at night

Exceptional
All the team were amazing, welcoming, friendly and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The Property was beautiful and so well designed with beautiful interiors . Really cosy atmosphere with exceptional views. The food was also excellent! Will definitely be revisiting.

The eating area has panoramic views and is large and airy
The bed was way too high my feet dangled a foot or more above the floor I had to climb onto it and I am 5ft6 so going to the loo 5 times a night then having to climb back onto a bed is just not the best

Charming stay at a proper country inn with luxurious touches.
Incredible value for money for such a lovely place. The room was really comfy and the pub itself was characterful and buzzing. Breakfast was very good and there is an amazing view from the dining area.
For the price, I don't think there is anything that can be improved. In my view it is pretty much perfect and I'm really just typing until the bar goes green.

Excellent for a one night stay!
The bed was extremely comfortable, even luxurious, and although the shower room was very small the shower itself was excellent. Breakfast was very good, staff friendly and helpful and there is a wonderful view from the dining room.
The room we stayed in had one all could need but, perhaps, for our tastes, too many items for the limited space eg unnecessary artificial plants. We had possibly more luggage than most guests due the fact we were attending a semi formal event in the area that evening which meant it felt rather cramped. However for one night's stay it fitted the bill perectly.

Bed is a double rather than a king. Road outside is quite fast and used by heavy lorries - get a rear-facing room if you can.

Very nice country pub with excellent ambience,
All staff welcoming and helpful. Location excellent. Bar and restaurant area a nice place to be. Bedroom small but great view and had mini terrace to sit outside. Dinners very good.
Would prefer buffet breakfast, fixed menu makes it difficult to have exactly what you want. Fairly small room had what would have been useful surfaces covered with artificial plants.

Excellent place to stay for visiting the Petworth area
Staff were extremely pleasant and very considerate. Food was superb. The room was comfortable, especially the bed and there was plenty of parking. good choice of beers and wines available at the bar.

Only really accessible by car, though pleasant country location is a plus if you do have private transport. Access to bedrooms involves a very short walk outside – umbrella useful for meals in wet weather.

Fantastic, warm, charming pub accommodation!
The Welldiggers Arms was a fantastic place to stay for our weekend away in the South Downs. The view was stunning at sunset over the hills, and the room was incredibly charming, down to tiny details like a wonderful scented air and the radio playing when we arrived. Both the dinner and the breakfast we ate there were excellent - the staff were particularly flexible with the breakfast which we much appreciated!

Room was too hot and we could not adjust the temperature, but given the freezing temperatures outside this was better than being too cold!
